THERE IS ONLY ONE PARTY. OURS.
SAT 13th FEB – Live HOOK AND THE TWIN NO FROGS FOR DINNER , CRANE BROTHERS, SPECTRUM 7, THE SNATCH (live) DJs DJ STEVE HARRIS (XFM), DJ FIRAS (FILTHY FEW ) DJ LUMBERJACK (LAST FM) CAMPARI SAFARI DJS, ED WILDER (CLUB NME)
Sweeping all before it, with a strident “Work Hard! Play Hard!” ethos, club night One Party State is already one year into the implementation of its five year plan... to provide the best night out for London’s downtrodden workers, at Camden’s Barfly. And it’s paying off – the venue has been packed each time!
and now we are bigger and better than ever thanks to the upgraded interior of the barfly - new lights beefed up sound and for tonight a 4am liscense!
Under threat of exile to the musical gulag, the DJs on both floors have been ordered to play their best possible sets by our Musical Commissars. There’ll also be Party Operatives moving through the venue to check that people are enjoying themselves.
Farm hands and factory workers (and their modern, office-based equivalents) are all invited... The clubbing Bourgeoisie and their lackeys are not! We are vehemently anti-socialite!
UPSTAIRS, prepare for Revolutionary Modern Guitar Music For A Utopian Future from resident DJ Ed Wilder (Club NME) and guest DJs:
TONIGHT AND NEXT MONTH WE TAKE OVER THE BAND BOOKING WITH FOUR BANDS INC ....
No Frogs For Dinner - staking their turf on alternative rock ground with the ear for riffage and a liking for inteligence pop - see also influences from Deus The Auteurs and Sparks - they also cite Radiohead, Hendrix, The Pixies, The Smashing Pumpkins, & The Velvet Underground as influences and also brit pop whatever that is and Belgium Pop. They have been busy amphibian rockers back in France getting to second place in the Emergenza and have just put the finishing touchs to their debut album
Crane Brothers - Crane Brothers are the sum of the albums they adore, the gigs they’ll never forget, the instruments they bought, the people who gave them lessons, the good times and the bad, ignorance and experience, ambition and fear.
"fresh, original, exciting music" ventured Tom Robinson from 6 Music
" Seemingly London based but originating way north of the capital in Manchester– Crane Brothers are a five man strong band (none of whom are called Crane). 'Don't Wait' is a brass tinged lite reggae-by-indie number that's brash enough in its chorus to be sent straight to the Radio1 playlist." espoused CMU
Spectrum 7 - quite frightingly good young band straight outta surrey with a touch of emo i say a touch the vocals do go up a bit but you'll be razzled by the keyboard onslaught that you'll forget about the wahhhh! factor
..the results are rather magical..talent and potential aplenty"
barked -ROCK SOUND
"Guillotine sharp electro-emo" wailed- NME
"..an emotional and energetic blend of frenetic and cathartic bleep and blip ridden rock" factoided - the fly
The Snatch - catchy girly spiky New wave pop from this hard gigging band who have a great front woman due some hype soon as they are playing the right venues with great gusto.
From 11.30 ...
Hook And The Twin - we first heard them on Marc Rileys show on bbc 6 music and it was the head spinning Race For The Bone - the mentalist kraut rock disco mother beast which will have you whistling it for months after you hear them tonight they are a frenetic act and cause a stir with their hypnotic kinetic music
" it's increasingly odd, like one of those TV tricks from the time before sophisticated special effects, where the camera would spin around and around to indicate a character falling into some sort of madness.. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to listen to it 17 more times" from Alan Mcgee' s favorites Drowned in sound review
DJ Steve Harris (XFM)- Steve presents The Evening Show every Monday till Friday between 7pm and 10pm delivering interviews from the latest and greatest who happen to be touring and selecting new tunes that are bubbling up into the playlist. hes played such great indie sets for us hes now a resident every 2nd sat at One Party State
