A night of experimental pop and unique innovation.
Following on the success of the first Eastbourne Goes Live show in April, with dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip, we are now proud to present St. Vincent. After a sold out Shepherd's Bush Empire show in February, St. Vincent is back to the UK with only a handful of dates in October, with The Eastbourne Winter Garden being one of them; a real coup for the borough!
St. Vincent is the moniker for Annie Clark (Polyphonic Spree, Sufjan Stevens), who has been moving at breakneck speed for the past two years, barely stopping to catch her breath amidst a whirlwind of recording and touring. In 2011 she released her third album, Strange Mercy, called "one of the year's best" by the New York Times and "smart, demanding and unique" by the Guardian. The record cemented her status as one of her generation's most fearsome and inventive guitarists and songwriters.
It was during this already monumentally busy time that she completed work with Talking Heads' David Byrne on their collaborative album 'Love This Giant,' another critical smash that was dubbed "a funky instant classic" by the Independent and "a pitch perfect partnership" by Clash Music, with major sold out shows all across Europe.
36 hours after touring wrapped with David Byrne, Clark was back to writing her next album, the self-titled St. Vincent. Clark has an inspiring creative energy, emphasising a character- driven performance that has become a highlight in her live shows. It's charming and alarming, gorgeous and morbid, comforting and uncanny, and she's not slowing down any time soon. Clark has since taken part in performing Nirvana's 'Lithium' with its original members for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and will also be performing on the acclaimed Saturday Night Live (US) alongside The Black Keys.
“St. Vincent showcases Annie Clark as a fiercely accomplished musician, a relentlessly original artist, and now, an innovator of pop.” – This is Fake DIY
“Annie Clark’s fourth album is frequently extraordinary.” – The Independent on Sunday.
