Lewes Psychedelic Festival presents:Flowers Must Die

Excited to welcome Swedish psych-rockers Flowers Must Die to Brighton.

For fans of acts such as Goat and Josefin Öhrn + Liberation, Flowers Must Die are a musical collective from Linköping, Sweden. With a name inspired by Ash Ra Temple’s greatest masterpiece, Flowers Must Die are originally a 5 piece which grew into a 6 piece when the highly talented vocalist/violinist Lisa Ekelund (formally of the band Katla) joined the collective. They have released three LPs plus several EPs and cassettes in their native country to high acclaim.

“Bonkers psychedelic contingent Flowers Must Die had everything. They were trippy, they were folky, they were noodly. Their set also marked one of the first Psych Fest run-outs we witnessed for that classically psychedelic instrument the Theremin. So bless them for gracing us with their bizarre, unctuous sci-fi material as imagined through the dubby filter of mystic, motorik basslines.” – Get Into This

“Flowers Must Die were absolutely exceptional on the small District stage delivering probably the most ‘evolving’ performance of improvised music of the two days. Beginning with a jazz infused cacophony and gradually building the intensity to an amazing high tempo repetitive conclusion, they absolutely smashed it on the District stage.” – Backseat Mafia

“Sweden has a long history of top notch psych, stretching back to Baby Grandmothers, Trad Gras och Stenar and International Harvester, and ‘Sista Valsen’ sits well amongst those legendary names.” Dayz of Purple and Orange – UK

Support comes from:JungfrauBrighton-based Jungfrau create haunting Alt-Indie Psych-Kraut! This four piece use intuitive beats and hypnotic bass lines to weave a rich texture of sonic guitar licks around a web of soaring, swooning vocals, painting a dark aural dreamscape. Jungfrau’s debut contains six mind-peeling tacks that for some may evoke the strident & heady vocal-led swirl of late sixties Jefferson Airplane spliced with the enchantment of classic Jarboe-driven Swans & underpinned with the hypnotic density of early Can & Amon Duul II, lovingly plastered all over with searing-hot stabs of furious guitar. For others, their sound is altogether a more mysterious experience that defies obvious comparisons.

Wax Machine“In the past year since they first emerged on the Brighton scene with a totally different take on the usual psychedelic music heard around the city, Wax Machine have branded their own mix of groovey psychedelia you’d expect to find in a dive bar in L.A in the late 60’s, taking heed from late greats of the era such as The Doors, Love, Hendrix, The Velvet Underground and T-rex.” – Acid Box
