Britain’s Welterweight superstar Kell Brook comes back to his natural division in this world title fight at Sheffield’s Bramall Lane, after bravely stepping up two weights to take on Unified Middleweight champion Gennardy Golovkin, who many regard as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. His opponent in this massive latest chapter in Kell’s career is unbeaten American Errol Spence, with Kell’s IBF Welterweight title on the line! This is your chance to see one of the fights of the year from superb floor or inner ringside seats in the arena; you will also enjoy top class hospitality in our VIP Lounge for the evening, at the Copthorne Hotel, which adjoins Bramall Lane.
We are delighted to welcome Sheffield boxing legend and current SKY sports boxing analyst, Johnny Nelson, as out special guest before the fight. Should Kell prevail in the bout, there will also be the unique opportunity of an exclusive post-fight interview with the Sheffield fighter in our lounge! With a high-class undercard to enjoy, the fight will be exclusively covered by SKY Sports on pay-per-view.
Kell Brook v Errol Spence: Unbeaten at Welterweight, Kell has held the IBF title since 2014, and he now faces one of the biggest challenges of his career against the unbeaten and explosive Errol Spence, who has won 18 of his 21 bouts by knockout. ‘Special K’ famously won the IBF Welterweight title as an underdog against US superstar, Shawn Porter, with a hard-fought majority decision in California, the crowning moment so far of his career. He has since defeated Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier, but will have to be at the top of his game again to beat Spence. Nicknamed “The Truth”, Spence has risen quickly to the top, most recently knocking out Italian veteran Leonard Bundu in the sixth round; but this will be by far his biggest challenge, against Britain’s Welterweight world title-holder and superstar.
Johnny Nelson: A born-and-bred son of Sheffield, Johnny enjoyed a professional career spanning 20 years after making his professional debut in 1986. He fought on 50 occasions in all, and famously held the WBO Cruiserwight title for over 6 years, being undefeated until his retirement, after beating fellow Brit Carl Thompson for the belt in 1999. His achievement of 13 successive successful defences remains the record for the division, and he retired as the holder of the belt. He was also successful at Heavyweight, winning the WBF title in 1993, and the WBU version in 2001. Since retirement in 2005, Johnny has gone on to forge a successful career as a boxing pundit, and is a regular big fight analyst on SKY Sports alongside the likes of Carl Froch and Glenn McCrory. It will be fascinating to hear from Johnny his thoughts on the chances of his fellow Sheffield fighter Kell Brook.
