It’s always difficult when a band decides to name themselves after a symbol – look at the hoo-ha with ‘The Artist Formerly Known As’ Prince all them many moons ago, but ∆ seem to have got it down with alt-J. ‘What does this mean?’ I hear you ask. Well, on a Mac, if you hold down alt and press J, ∆ is the outcome. The symbol has a deeper meaning for the band, which is explained by guitarist/bassists Gwil Sainsbury, “in mathematical equations it’s used to show change”, which reflects the turning point they were at at the time. The band, who have been heralded by NME as “making geometry sound sexy”, are currently on tour and tickets are on sale now! (Last updated: 10/08/12)
